Selena Gomez, Billboard’s “Woman of the Year,” has gone through a lot in 2017. From producing the hit Netflix show 13 Reasons Why, to evolving her music style with singles like “Fetish” and “Bad Liar,” to being open about her recent kidney transplant, Gomez has experienced it all.
Before the 2017 Women in Music event, Gomez stopped by the red carpet to talk to Billboard’s Chelsea Briggs and Keith Caulfield about her intense 2017, new music, and reuniting with Justin Bieber.
When asked about being crowned “Woman of the Year,” the multitalented star called it an “honor.” “Honestly, I don’t know if I feel like I deserve it sometimes but I am so honored to be part of an industry where there is real movement for women. I think it’s important, I couldn’t be more thrilled.”
After enduring a kidney transplant earlier this year, Gomez reveals that the whole experience made her look at life “a little differently.” “I’m good, I’m really good,” she says with a smile.
Recently, Gomez has been seen reuniting with her ex-boyfriend, Justin Bieber. When asked about the influence Bieber has had on her life for the last few years, the “Wolves” singer says she thinks no one “truly actually cares.” “It’s not really my concern anymore,” Gomez says of how people think she should live her life. “My family is great. My health is great. I love deeply and I think that’s just who I am. I’m not really ashamed.”
